We've found the grip so impressive as-is, that we decided not to add a middle arch. Give it a shot, it wont disappoint.
Material tear-out is natural, wether your pad is or not. great news though, under the cork surface is only more cork, so as your pad ages, you wont lose any grip whatsoever.
